VICTORIAN TOURIST DIES IN FLOODED KIMBERLEY

AN elderly Victorian tourist died yesterday when the vehicle she was in skidded off a flooded Kimberley highway and hit a tree.

The 73-year-old woman was with her husband, 74, when their hire car, a Mazda two-door hatch, was heading west along Victoria Highway, near the intersection of Lake Argyle Road turn-off, near Kununurra.

The vehicle entered a floodway and appears to have aqua-planed, causing the driver to lose control and hit a tree.

The area had received heavy rain from Tropical Cyclone Christine in the previous 24 hours.

Both the tourists were taken to Kununurra Hospital with injuries, where the woman died a short time later.
